Draw, write and letter with a Brause Bandzug nib fitted to our Classic Fountain Pen. The Brause Brandzug nib is use for calligraphy, particularly for creating bold, sharp lines in styles like Gothic, Italic, and Roman lettering, thanks to its unique square cut tip and ink reservoir allowing for precise upstrokes and distinct letterforms. Bangzug nibs come in a range of six sizes measured across the front of the nib from 1mm to 6mm. We only stock the 2mm size which is a good compromise. The Brause Bandzug nib is considered ideal for broad-edged calligraphy with a strong visual impact because of these features:

  • Square cut tip - this design creates a sharp, defined line with noticeable differences between downstrokes and upstrokes.
  • Ink reservoir: The nib has a small reservoir on top to hold ink, allowing for longer writing sessions between dips.
  • Best suited for: Gothic, Italic, and Roman calligraphy styles
  • Precision and control: The sharp angles of the nib provide precise control over line thickness and letter shapes

You can retain the topside reservoir when you use this nib in your Classic Fountain Pen if you make sure the reservoir tabs don't press against the feed. You can also remove the reservoir because you no longer need to dip these nibs - ink flows easily to the tip. The reservoir slides off and presses on easily. You can also order this pen with our overfeed - it rests easily on top of the Brause Bandzug nib as long as you remove the reservoir.

  • Use any ink - even India ink and most drawing paints - you cannot plug up this pen
  • Slip nibs in and out to change the shape of your drawn line
  • Slip feeds in and out to change the flow rate
  • Easy to clean - disassemble the pen to clean it in 20 seconds
  • Large capacity reservoir lets you draw all day - remove the reservoir to double your carrying capacity
  • Optional overfeed can work with the thinner Bandzug nibs if you want to expand the width and length of your drawn lines. Be sure to remove the topside reservoir on the nib if you plan to use an overfeed in the pen.

  • One Classic Fountain Pen
  • One Brause Bandzug nib
  • One matching standard flow feed
  • Instructions for use
  • One overfeed if you select this option

  • Purchase the optional overfeed, which expands the width of your drawn lines and extends the length you can draw them - for more details see using our overfeeds. If you use our overfeed, you will have to remove the top side reservoir from the Bandzug nib. Keep the Brause reservoir for future re-use. You can replace the overfeed with an overfeed collar when you don't want to use the overfeed.
  • Attach our Brush Tool to the back of your Classic Fountain Pen to wash your drawings with water or diluted ink, or paint your drawings with watercolor - for more details see using our Brush Tool

Everyone uses pens, we all have our favorites, and our favorites change over time. What we need is the infinitely configurable pen, but that defies the world we live in. There are physical contraints, and no more so than a tool we hold in our hands. It can't be too small or too big, too thick or too thin, and the feel must be appealing - our hands are very sensitive. The tool's performance must be excellent or we will move on until we find what we're looking for. Few things are more frustrating than a pen that doesn't work as expected.

We build pens for artists because everyone is an artist when they handle a pen, when they draw, write, even scribble. You are making your mark! A good pen should enable you to draw or write the way you want to. The pen should fit in your hand and feel comfortable. Most of all it should let you use nibs you enjoy and the inks and paints you want to use.

The perfect pen should be strong and durable yet easy to clean through frequent use with little maintenance, and survive the bumps and falls of everyday use. This is what we try to achieve using a combination of new technology and proven designs. We use CAD applications that let us produce novel designs using new machines that let us recreate features from the "golden age of fountain pens". We use modern materials that serve our purpose, feel good in your hand, remain good looking over time and through use, and prevent ink and paint buildup that can plug your pen.

There is no one pen that will provide everything you want, but we keep trying!
