Draw, letter and write using a hawk quill fitted to our Classic Pump Pen. The hawk quill is a favorite nib with many types of artists, from calligraphers to comic book artists. The hawk quill is a pointed nib that's very flexible and lays down a wide variation of line widths from very thin lines to medium width lines. The hawk quill is identical to the crowquill, except the hawk quill is larger. The hawk quill could be the oldest nib in continuous use. It gets name from the quill feather of a hawk, but it looks more like the toe on a hawk with the fine sharp point.

We provide a choice of two hawk quill nibs with this pen - the Hunt 107 and the Hunt 108 Litho Hawk quill. You can use hawk quills made by other manufacturers. There are no standards that apply to hawk quills, but you can use most hawk quills made by other manufacturers.

The hawk quill is a single piece of rolled spring steel rolled into a tube with one pointed. The crowquill is coated or anodized to resist corrosion. The ink must travel down the center of the nib, which constrains the flow with thicker inks. For this reason, we suggest you use this pen with quill nibs so you can press the pump to encourage the flow of ink through the narrow tube. Hawk quill nibs work well in our Classic Fountain Pens, but you have less control over the flow.

You can remove the adaptor that holds the hawk quill and feed to clean these items and to replace them when necessary. You can purchase additional hawk quill nibs and hawk quill ink feeds separately.

  • Use any ink - even India ink and most drawing paints - you cannot plug up this pen
  • Slip nibs in and out to change the shape of your drawn line
  • Slip feeds in and out to change the flow rate
  • Easy to clean - disassemble the pen to clean it in 20 seconds
  • Large capacity reservoir lets you draw all day - remove the reservoir to double your carrying capacity
  • Optional overfeed if you want to expand the width and length of your drawn lines
  • Our Classic Pens are 100$#% recylable

  • Other quill nibs of a similar size and shape
  • Use our standard feed to use many popular large nibs, such as Manga G nibs, Brause nibs, and our Sketch and Music nibs
  • Use our Gillott 303 adapter to draw with the Gillot 303 nib
  • Use our specialty feeds to draw with Speedball and Brause Blue Pumpkin nibs

  • Attach our Brush Tool to the back of the pen to wash your drawings with water, dilute ink or a touch of watercolor

Everyone uses pens, we all have our favorites, and our favorites change over time. What we need is the infinitely configurable pen, but that defies the world we live in. There are physical contraints, and no more so than a tool we hold in our hands. It can't be too small or too big, too thick or too thin, and the feel must be appealing - our hands are very sensitive. The tool's performance must be excellent or we will move on until we find what we're looking for. Few things are more frustrating than a pen that doesn't work as expected.

We build pens for artists because everyone is an artist when they handle a pen, when they draw, write, even scribble. You are making your mark! A good pen should enable you to draw or write the way you want to. The pen should fit in your hand and feel comfortable. Most of all it should let you use nibs you enjoy and the inks and paints you want to use.

The perfect pen should be strong and durable yet easy to clean through frequent use with little maintenance, and survive the bumps and falls of everyday use. This is what we try to achieve using a combination of new technology and proven designs. We use CAD applications that let us produce novel designs using new machines that let us recreate features from the "golden age of fountain pens". We use modern materials that serve our purpose, feel good in your hand, remain good looking over time and through use, and prevent ink and paint buildup that can plug your pen.

There is no one pen that will provide everything you want, but we keep trying!
