Note : We will start fulfilling orders for overfeed collars December 30, 2024.

An overfeed collar is a short section of tube that replaces the overfeed when you don't want to draw or write with an overfeed. Just pull out the overfeed and press in an overfeed collar. Make sure you press the collar in all the way. Only a lip of the collar should protrude, as shown below. You can see collars protruding from the front of the two pens below.

You might have to encourage the collar to go in all the way. The fit is tight to prevent against leakage. The best way to force the collar to the bottom is to use a few taps from a rubber headed hammer or a jeweler's hammer. A large hard headed hammer might bend the exposed lip of the collar unless you are very careful.

There is no easy way to pull out the collar. Plastic jaw pliers are the best choice, but not many people have these handy. Needle nose pliers can work if the two sides are well matched so they grip precisely and hold securely. Cheap needle nose pliers will give you more failures.

For this reason we do not suggest that you switch out the overfeed often. Switching back and forth frequently will expand the tolerances inside the pen and eventually lead to a loose fitting overfeed and perhaps leaking ink.

Not everyone who orders a Classic pen with overfeed will want to use a collar. For this reason we are not shipping a collar with each overfeed pen.

Caveat

The image for this product shows three overfeed collars so you can see the product from all angles. We do this to describe the product as clearly as we can. You only receive the number of collars you order. We do not ship three collars for each order.

Keep in mind

We don't recommend that you try to replace the overfeed unless you've got the right tools, you're adept at working with small parts, and you have a safe place to store the overfeed and collar when not in use. We sell overfeeds and overfeed collars separately in case you misplace them.

Everyone uses pens, we all have our favorites, and our favorites change over time. What we need is the infinitely configurable pen, but that defies the world we live in. There are physical contraints, and no more so than a tool we hold in our hands. It can't be too small or too big, too thick or too thin, and the feel must be appealing - our hands are very sensitive. The tool's performance must be excellent or we will move on until we find what we're looking for. Few things are more frustrating than a pen that doesn't work as expected.

We build pens for artists because everyone is an artist when they handle a pen, when they draw, write, even scribble. You are making your mark! A good pen should enable you to draw or write the way you want to. The pen should fit in your hand and feel comfortable. Most of all it should let you use nibs you enjoy and the inks and paints you want to use.

The perfect pen should be strong and durable yet easy to clean through frequent use with little maintenance, and survive the bumps and falls of everyday use. This is what we try to achieve using a combination of new technology and proven designs. We use CAD applications that let us produce novel designs using new machines that let us recreate features from the "golden age of fountain pens". We use modern materials that serve our purpose, feel good in your hand, remain good looking over time and through use, and prevent ink and paint buildup that can plug your pen.

There is no one pen that will provide everything you want, but we keep trying!
