About our adapters
Our adapters let you use smaller nibs in our Classic pens. We provide adapters for the following nibs.
- Crowquills - we provide the the Hunt 102 crowquill in our pens but most crowquills will fit.
- Hawk Quills - we provide the Hunt 107 and Hunt 108, also called Litho Hawk Quill
- Gillott 303 nibs made by Mitchell (UK)
For more specific instructions, see Using our adapters.
Adapters press fit into the front of our Classic Fountain Pens and Classic Pump Pens. They are designed to hold the smaller nib inside the front of the pen and feed ink to the nib. The fit of the adapter inside the pen is tight to prevent leakage. You can remove the adapter to clean or replace the nib and feed.
Assembling and inserting adapters
To assemble an adapter, start by inserting the feed into the nib. Make sure the tip of the feed is positioned correctly under the tip of the nib.
The Crowquill and Hawk Quill adapters use a thin feed, so be careful when handling the feed. There are two types of feeds you can use for these nibs - a plastic feed and a spring feed. Generally speaking, thinner inks work better with our plastic feeds, while thicker inks work better with spring feeds.
Inserting and removing adapters
Next press the adapter nto the front of the pen. Make sure you feel the adapter seat itself securely into the pen. You can leave the adapter in the pen as long as you want to use the nib. We suggest you remove and clean nibs and adapters from time to time.
To remove the adapter from the pen, grab the front of the adapter and pull it out. If the adapter is stuck in the pen, unscrew the front of the pen and use a stick or similar object to press the adapter out of the pen. We recommend chop sticks, which are usually strong enough to work but soft enough not to scratch the plastic.
Cleaning adapters
To clean an adapter, remove the adapter from the pen, then remove the nib and feed. Run water over the parts. Clean the parts using bristle brush or old toothbrush, then wipe dry. You might have to scrub the parts to remove dried ink.
